6:30 pm Visual prayer, an age old way of praying with the use of paintings, frescoes, stain glass windows, and sculptures, enabled an illiterate people to recall the biblical stories of God and humanity. These images pointed to Gods relationship with men and women as recorded in the Old and New Testaments. During the Reformation, all images were struck from Protestant worship spaces because of abuses perceived and real that had dominated many western Christian worship services. Over time, there has been a moderation of the first response to strip all visual reminders of divine relationship from Christian worship space. In this class, a redefined Protestant use will be explored, both for the congregational setting and
individual use. During each session, individuals will listen to brief comments about the practice of visual prayer and time set aside to practice visual prayer. Too often, we do not take time to quiet our active minds and just be still and rest in Gods presence. Many individuals talk about a desire, even a need, to be quiet and pray. For eight weeks (October 20-December 6) time is being set aside to quiet heart and mind to seek God in visual prayer.

6:30 pm Can you be a Christian and take science seriously? Can you take science seriously and still be a Christian? At a time when influential voices are demanding that we either abandon the practice of religion or reject scientific findings, this essential and inspirational course offers a positive alternative: a way to live in todays world as scientifically informed believers. The series is hosted by Dr. Francis S. Collins, former director of the National Human Genome Research Institute, and author of "The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief." Join more than a dozen world experts as they consider how religion and science might coexist and even complement one another in the 21st Century. Lessons cover not only the questions related to origins,
but also questions exploring bioethics and environmental issues. Join us for this 13 lesson series (August 25-December 1 no classes on October 27 or November 24.)

Deb Trimpe and Deb Williams Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study - Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study asserts that the bible is the key to renewal in the church. It recognizes the human-divine nature of the Bible. The actual texts of Scripture were written by human beings like ourselves in their cultural settings, under the divine inspiration of God. The canon was formed as it is in order for God to speak to us. This study will give equal time to both the Old and New Testament, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as the revelation of God. Disciple Study aims at transformation, not just information, and calls on persons to submit themselves to examination by Scripture, to put themselves under the power of Gods Word, and to be changed by Gods Word. It invites persons to bring their experiences and struggles to the Scripture.

The Book of Acts - The Acts of the Apostles is unique; there is no literary or artistic or dramatic form to which it may be accurately compared or contrasted. Acts argues strenuously from Scripture that Jesus is God's Messiah, but it is not a polemic argument. It tells a fascinating story, with memorable characters, but it is not a novel. By word and deed, Acts testifies to the risen Christ, but it is more than a testimony or proclamation. The power of the Holy Spirit is witnessed and expressed nowhere in Scripture as it is in Acts. The reader sometimes has to confront the reality that this is not the Acts of the Apostles, but the Acts of the Spirit working through the apostles. The Acts of the Apostles placed great demands on the authorand it demands much of the reader. Whoever begins the study of the book starts on the journey of a lifetime!
