Todays readings focus on resurrection, The RESURRECTION of Jesus which is the foundation of our faith and our own resurrection when The King of the world will raise us up to live again forever. (Maccabees 7:9) The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that our belief in the resurrection of the dead has been an essential element of the Christian faith from its beginnings. (CCC 991) Every Sunday at our Eucharist and on Holy Days when we stand together and make our profession of faith, we proclaim, We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
Our belief in resurrection is one of the great mysteries of our faith. We believe that Jesus life did not end on the cross but that On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures: He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe that when Jesus does come again in glory, we will be there ready to share in that glory.
Resurrection is about our life in God. Our belief in resurrection is more than a definition of what we hope for when we die; it defines how we live. As people of the resurrection, we live transformed lives as new creations freed from sin and from death. We do not live in fear of death, but we live in the light of Christ Jesus knowing that at the end of time, We shall rise like Christ, with him, and through him. (CCC 995)
God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, God of all the living, we come to you in faith, longing to be transformed in Christ as children of the resurrection. Work the wonders of your grace, in our times so that the whole world may see that those cast down are being raised up, and all creation is moving toward fulfillment through the One who is the beginning and end of all.
We ask you this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.
