We are very excited to announce that we have merged with WellStar and will be changing the name of our practice to "WellStar Comprehensive Bariatric Services". This change will allow us to better serve our community. Watch our website as we make changes.

Dr. Dennis C. Smith, Jr. performs the Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy with Duodenal Switch (DS) (commonly referred to as the "Duodenal Switch", and in the past known as the Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch (BPD/DS) procedure, the Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, the Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, and the Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAP-BAND System) Procedure. Dr. Smith will also evaluate patients for conversion of the LAP-BAND adjustable gastric banding system to a Sleeve Gastrectomy with Duodenal Switch procedure, and some other Revisional procedures.

Dr. Smith is one of very few surgeons in the US who performs all four of the major bariatric operations completely laparoscopically.

The ROSE Procedure!
Dr. Smith is now offering the ROSE Procedure (Restorative Obesity Surgery, Endoluminal). If you have had a bariatric operation, including the Sleeve Gastrectomy or the Duodenal Switch, but you've either started to regain weight or you've not reached the level of weight loss you'd hoped for, the ROSE Procedure can help to reduce the volume of your stomach pouch.

We ARE currently accepting Medicare applications. Please note that we do not accept assignment with Medicare. We are now in-network with several health care insurance plans, with several other plans coming on-line in the next several months. Please continue to call our office for updated information.

Dr. Smith has been involved with the development of laparoscopic techniques for the Duodenal Switch procedure. He was the third surgeon in the world to perform the totally laparoscopic Duodenal Switch, and has now performed over 300 of these totally laparoscopic Duodenal Switch Procedures. He has also done over 600 laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass procedures.

He was the first bariatric surgeon in the world to present the Hand-Sewn Duodenal-Ileal Anastomosis technique for the Duodenal Switch, and he has presented his techniques and results with the Totally Laparoscopic Duodenal Switch procedure at national and international meetings of bariatric surgeons.

He is also very involved with teaching laparoscopic bariatric surgery techniques to other bariatric surgeons, especially the Sleeve Gastrectomy, the Sleeve Gastrectomy with Duodenal Switch, and laparoscopic suturing techniques.

Dr. Smith is a Committee member in both the American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS). and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).

We treat many patients from outside of Georgia, and even out of the United States, especially for the Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy with Duodenal Switch. The Advanced Obesity Surgery Center in Marietta, Georgia is a comprehensive center for bariatric surgery devoted exclusively to laparoscopic surgery for the treatment of morbid obesity. We have options available in our medical system for Medically-Supervised Weight Loss for those patients whose insurance companies mandate it before they can be approved for bariatric surgery.
