Frequently Asked Questions
Why get a spray-on tan?
Many people simply don't have the time to bake in the sun to achieve a dark tan. Spray-on tanning delivers a believable, natural-looking tan without the harmful effects of the sun or the tanning bed!
How long does a spray-on tan last?
Depending on a person's activities and skin type, the tan lasts approximately 5 to 7 days (up to 10 for some people). With follow-up applications, a person can maintain the tan indefinitely.
How does spray-on tanning work?
A solution containing DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is applied to the skin using a fine mist spray machine. The DHA reacts with amino acids in the cells of the outer layer of the skin, producing a bronzing without damaging the cells. The reaction looks natural as if from the sun. As the outer layer of skin cells slough off, the tan fades just like a suntan would fade.
Is spray-on tanning safe?
Yes! DHA has been used in the cosmetic industry for almost 30 years and was listed with the FDA in 1973. It is declared safe and suitable for use in cosmetics and drugs used to color the skin. DHA is derived from glycerin (vegetable origin), which is commonly used as a cosmetic and food ingredient. DHA is not absorbed into the body and poses no possibility of toxicity. However, if you are pregnant or nursing you should check with your doctor prior to booking a tanning appointment.
Can I still get a UV tan in addition to my spray-on tan?
Yes, just remember that spray tanning does not provide any sunscreen protection, so you should apply sunscreen accordingly.
How long should I wait after the application before I can shower or sweat?
We recommend 8 to 12 hours with no water whatsoever on your skin. This gives the DHA time to darken your skin cells.
How can I minimize exfoliation from hot tubs, swimming pools and the ocean after my tanning session?
After your tan has developed (8-12 hours) and after your first shower, you can minimize water activity exfoliation by liberally and frequently applying a good, strong waterproof sunscreen prior to submerging yourself.
Will the tanning solution stain my clothes?
The solution will wash off your skin after your first post-tan shower. But until then, the colors added to the solutions may stain some fabrics (for example, nylon, silk, wool and polyester). However, a good soaking in water will usually lift the stain from the fabric. Most fabrics and materials are completely safe from staining.
Should I shave before my tanning session?
Yes. It is best to shave about 8 hours before the application. After your application, be sure to use a new razor as old, dull blades can remove the tanned skin cells.

Preparing for Body Bronzing Spray-On Tan Treatment
Exfoliate: Shower and exfoliate prior to your tanning session using a washcloth with a non-oily scrub. You can mix baking soda with a non-moisturizing liquid soap if you do not have an exfoliating product.
Do not moisturize: Be sure all lotions, creams, deodorants, makeup or other toiletries are removed from the skin before a session. If you are unable to shower just prior to your tanning session, we have wipes to remove makeup and deodorant. For an additional $5.00 fee we can provide a full body exfoliating product as part of your tanning session.
Shave: Waxing or shaving should be done 8 hours prior to tanning.
What to wear during your tanning session: Attire for women is whatever you are comfortable with. Many things can be done to minimize tan lines. The key is your comfort level. Attire for men is boxers, swim trunks or shorts.
Be certain to bring a dark-colored bathing suit (or your garment of preference). Our tanning solution washes out of most clothing very easily but tends to stain light-colored nylon and other light-colored synthetic materials. If you do not have an appropriate bathing suit, disposable bras and thongs can be provided.
Dark-colored bathing suit (or your garment of preference)
Dark, loose-fitting clothing to be worn after your tanning session
Towel for your car
Bring dark, loose clothing to your appointment to wear home after your tan. Tight fitting clothing can hinder tanning results. Plan not to get wet, exercise or perspire for 8 to 12 hours. After that time, the product can be showered off and normal activities can be resumed. You will see some color washing off the first time you shower. This is just the surface color that was applied; your skin will continue to tan for 24 hours as the tanning solution develops.
Tanning Color Development Times
With the new technology in sunless tanning, you can have a dark, natural-looking tan within 8 to 12 hours of application. Your tan will last about 5 to 7 days (up to 10 for some people) if properly cared for.

What to Avoid AFTER Your Body Bronzing Spray-On Tan Application
Retin-A, Renova, Tri-Luma and skin bleaching products
Acne or skin products containing benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, alpha hydroxyl acid (AHAs), beta hydroxyl acids (BHAs), malic or lactic acid
Products containing alcohol or witch hazel
Loofahs, loofah gloves or exfoliating products
Body moisturizers or shower gels that contain petroleum or mineral oil bases
Soaking in salt water (ocean), chlorine (hot tubs and pools) or warm baths can rapidly exfoliate your tan. Do not rub your skin with a towel after bathing pat dry only.
Caring for your tan
Be sure to wait 8 to 12 hours before your initial shower. Then apply moisturizer after every shower to keep your skin hydrated. Hydrated skin makes your tan last longer and keeps your skin looking healthy. Be sure to use a new sharp razor when shaving your legs.
