July 23rd, 2010 Internationally Acclaimed Pianist to Perform
Dynamic Ukrainian-American pianist Marina Lomazov will be the guest artist at the 2010 Joseph Pramberger Memorial Concert. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 13 and will include works of Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Debussy and Kapustin. Praised by critics as a diva of the piano (Salt Lake City Tribune), a mesmerizing risk taker (Cleveland Plain Dealer) and simply spectacular (International Music Foundation, Chicago), Ms. Lomazov has established herself as one of the most passionate and charismatic performers on the concert scene today.
Ms. Lomazov has been awarded top prizes in several of the worlds major piano competitions including the Hilton Head International Piano Competition (First Prize, 1998), Cleveland (Silver Medal), Gina Bachauer (Outstanding Female Performer), and William Kapell (Carmen Sasmore Prize). She has given performances throughout North America, South America, England, France, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia, Japan and in most of the fifty states in the United States. She has appeared with the Boston Pops, Rochester Philharmonic, Graz Hochschulorchester, Ohio Chamber Orchestra, Missouri Chamber Orchestra, South Carolina Philharmonic, and Spokane Symphony Orchestra, to name a few. She has been featured on the Bravo cable channel, and her live performances are broadcast regularly on public radio stations including programs such as National Public Radios Performance Today and New Yorks Young Artist Showcase.
Before immigrating to the United States, Ms. Lomazov studied at the Kiev Conservatory where she became the youngest First Prize Winner of the all-Kiev Piano Competition. Ms. Lomazov holds degrees from the Juilliard School and the Eastman School of Music (Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Piano Performance and Literature), the latter granting upon her the highly coveted Artists Certificate an honor the institution had not bestowed upon a pianist for nearly two decades. Her principal teachers include Leonid Lazarevich Fundiler and the late Valery Sagaidachny in the Ukraine and Natalya Antonova, Jerome Lowenthal, and Barry Snyder in the United States.
Together with her husband and duo partner Joseph Rackers, Ms. Lomazov also performs as part of the Lomazov/Rackers piano duo. In 2005, the duo was awarded the Second Prize at the Sixth Biennial Ellis Competition for Duo Pianists, the only national duo piano competition in the United States at the time. In 2008, the duo performed with the Savannah Concert Association.
Ms. Lomazov is Associate Professor of Piano at the University of South Carolina School of Music where she also is the founder and artistic director of the Southeastern Piano Festival.
The concert is Messiah Lutherans gift to the community. The churchs nursery will be open and parents are encouraged to enjoy an evening of superb music making while their children are watched over on site. Tax-deductible contributions are gratefully accepted to help defray costs. For more information, please call (912) 598-1188 or visit www.messiahsk.com.

March 10th, 2010 Church Parsonage listed for Sale
As you may now know, Pastor Myers and his family are settling into the home they have purchased on Wickersham Drive in The Landings. It was a blessing to all of us that that they were able to sell their Tennessee home in only one weeks time prior to their move. Likewise, we share their excitement about settling into a permanent home that suits their family.
Based on these changes, Messiah is currently planning to sell the church parsonage located at 3 River Birch Lane, (just off Landings Way South). At Monday nights meeting, acting on the recommendation of the Parsonage Dispensation sub-committee, Council authorized moving forward with listing the property for sale. In order to fully authorize the actual sale of the church parsonage, a brief Special Congregational Meeting will be held following our worship service on March 28, 2010.
Questions regarding the parsonage should be directed to either Phil Nack or Rob Fritz
February 10th, 2010 The February Love Experiment
As February begins, the church season marches on. This month we will celebrate The Transfiguration, Ash Wednesday, and the beginning of Lent. (Dont forget to join us for soup, sandwich, and worship on Wednesday nights in Lent. A big THANK YOU, in advance, to the Mens Group for making sure we are fed.
I also associate February with colder weather and Valentines Day. When I think of Valentines Day, my thoughts turn to those of love. Usually the sappy Hallmark card kind of love, but I also always think of the love verses from Pauls letter to the congregation in Corinth.
Love is patient, Love is kindAnd now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. – 1 Cor. 13
Many of us associate this verse with weddings because thats where we hear it most often. If we leave it there, we have missed the point. Paul is offering a still more excellent way of life. Not one that looks out for the self, but one that is always thinking of the other.
This is a lesson we try to teach our children; their actions not only affect themselves, but their actions affect the lives of others. Our choices, made in love, have a positive impact for the gospel on the lives of others.
In one of his books, author Max Lucado suggests this little experiment.
Then re-read it, but as when you re-read it, during verses 4-7, substitute your name for the word love or the pronoun it.
Ex: John is patient, John is kind.
How do you measure up? Knowing that God has called us to a life of love, to be children of God, Kids of the Kingdom, I invite you to try The Love Experiment with me.
The Love Experiment:
Each day of February, exactly four weeks, read 1st Corinthian 13, the whole chapter, insert your name in verses 4-7, and live your way into the loving life to which God has called you.
January 17th, 2010 Pastor Ed Installed at Messiah!
Messiah Lutheran is pleased to announce the installation of The Reverend Edward W. Myers as their new full time Pastor. Following a period of intentional interim ministry under the leadership of Rev. Glenn Boland, Messiah embarked on an exhaustive search before calling Pastor Myers. The Rev. Daryl Peterson, Assistant to the Bishop of the Southeastern Synod, and Rev. Wayne Cobb, Conference Dean, officiated at the service. They were joined by area Lutheran pastors and clergy from other area churches.
Pastor Myers is a graduate of Western Kentucky University, and received his Masters in Divinity from Trinity Seminary in Columbus Ohio. He has served other Lutheran congregations in Kentucky and Tennessee before his call to Messiah Lutheran on Skidaway Island.
Pastor Myers, his wife Brenda and their 2 children have relocated to The Landings on Skidaway Island.

January 3rd, 2010 The Journey Continues!
And the Lord said, I will show my concern for you and keep my promise I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperityplans to bring about the future you hope for. Jeremiah 29: 11
I alone know the plans I have for you Boy, wasnt that the truth! Little could we have known what plans God had in store for Messiah Lutheran when we chose that verse from Jeremiah to guide us during our period of congregational transition. But now we are coming to the end of that journey and he has kept his promise.
Much has been accomplished during our intentional interim ministry. I would like to express my sincere thanks for the support you have given Council during my tenure as your President. You will be excited to know that your congregational officers for 2010 will be Frank Leibgott-President; John Duren-Vice President; Pam Allen-Secretary; and Roger Nord-Treasurer. We are blessed with many talented members that serve Messiah in so many special ways. In particular, we give heartfelt thanks that God sent his servants Pastor Glenn and Carole to be with us throughout this transitional journey. We are better disciples because of their gifts to us.
And now we prepare for another journeya new journey with a newly called Pastor. Again, who could have known that we would be so blessed as to find Pastor Ed, Brenda, Tate and Annabelle! I alone know the plans I have for you.
As I thought about all these changes over the last few weeks, I found it particularly mysterious that this was all happening during Advent.
—not because Advent is the beginning of a new Church year,
—not because Advent means arrival and we have a new Pastor,
—not because its a season of preparation and weve been preparing the parsonage for occupancy,
—and not because its Christmas with the coming of Jesus the Christ in his first Advent, but because its also the time that we reflect on the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent. In the Second Advent we all participate! With this focus on our involvement and the span of past, present and future, Advent reflects the spiritual journey of us as individuals and as Messiah Lutheran, the congregation. In Advent we affirm that Christ has come, He is present today, and in anticipation of the future consummation we believe that He will come again in power.
As 2010 unfolds and our congregation embarks on our next exciting journey, lets remember the foundational work of the past years, the present commitment that we have made to grow in discipleship by Praying, Inviting, Giving, Serving, Studying, Encouraging and Worshiping, and above all lets live in the joyful anticipation of all that God has in store for Messiah LutheranHe alone knows the plans He has for us and He alone can bring about the future we hope for!
Peace and Grace,
