The Cancer Center at Northeast Georgia Medical Center cares for more than 1,200 newly diagnosed cancer patients each year as well as recurrent cancer patients with ongoing treatment needs.
An experienced team of board-certified physician specialists and clinical oncology professionals provides an array of programs and services to meet the needs of cancer patients and their families. State-of-the-art radiation therapy, chemotherapy and biologic and hormone therapies are available treatment options as well as innovative techniques such as prostate seed implant therapy and sentinel node biopsy. When treatment is no longer an option, the Cancer Center can assist patients and their families in coordinating care with Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
The Cancer Center also offers approximately 80 ongoing cancer clinical trials, ensuring that patients throughout northeast Georgia have access to the latest research advances in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. By partnering with many different national oncology research groups, the Cancer Center is able to offer a good mixture of trials for patients, including trials for chemotherapy, radiation and surgical treatments that cover virtually all tumor sites including breast, lung, colon and prostate cancers.
Patient Navigation is a new service provided by the Cancer Center which provides assistance to patients as they negotiate the complex healthcare system. The navigators provide support and education to the patient as they undergo treatment. They will assist with community support resources that can help with travel and financial support.
