Phillips Construction has been building Columbus since 1978, when R. Larry Phillips and two other partners started a construction company specializing in pre-engineered steel building-type projects. In 1983, Larry Phillips bought his partners' interests in the company and expanded the business to include commercial, industrial and institutional building construction.
This move helped Phillips Construction broaden its base of services, including project planning and analysis, site survey and soil analysis, guaranteed maximum cost estimates and building and construction services. The firm also offers architectural, engineering, and design services in conjunction with the projects it constructs.
Today, Phillips Construction has gone beyond the initial plans begun more than a decade ago. The company has expanded its market to include all types of buildings - brick, structural steel, concrete, and wood frame, in addition to pre-engineered steel, and has expanded its market area by constructing projects in Macon, Newnan and West Point, Ga., and in Destin, Fla.
The company has an average of 25 full-time employees and works with approximately 60 local subcontractors in the Columbus area. Building automobile dealerships, aircraft hangars and terminals, retail stores, chemical plants, restaurants, warehouses churches, medical offices and office buildings, Phillips Construction has become an award-winning builder in the area.
The company's employees are involved in the community as leaders and members of the Columbus Home Builders Association, St. Francis Hospital Board of Trustees, Women in Construction, the Board of Zoning Appeals of Columbus, the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, Ducks Unlimited, Boy Scouts of America, Easter Seals of West Georgia and the Rotary Club of North Columbus.
