News and Announcements November is Pet Diabetes Month! · Diabetes affects both dogs and cats · Usually seen in dogs 4-14 years of age Females are twice as likely to become diabetic Predisposed breeds include but are not limited to Poodles, Schnauzers, Keeshounds, Cairn Terriers, Dachunds, Cocker Spaniels, and Beagles. · Diabetes has been diagnosed in cats of any age Neutered males most affected · Obese animals of both species are more likely to become diabetic. · Signs to look for in your pet: Increased thirst and urination Decreased weight (especially in cats) Increased appetite Dull hair coat · Diagnosis is confirmed with a simple blood test and urinalysis · Treatment: Can sometimes be managed with diet Most are insulin dependant Insulin given by injection Regular glucose curves *Diabetes is a life-long disease that requires full commitment by owner* If your pet is showing any of the above signs please contact us today!
