Are there any disadvantages to using Digital Command Controllers?
The benefits of using DCC equipment far outweighs the negatives, but there are some things to consider before taking the plunge. If you’ve run a model railroad for a number of years, it’s likely that your locomotives aren’t equipped with decoders. This may require a significant investment if you run multiple locomotives. If you own newer locomotives, it’s likely they have sockets that accept a plug-in decoder, but if they have to be installed it’s highly recommended to get help from a professional. At Litchfield Station, our model railroad experts can install decoders into any locomotive, some of which are full of amazing features that will take your layout to the next level. If you’re capable of installing your own decoders, we also have all of the equipment you need that will make this process far easier. Some newer locomotives come equipped with decoders already installed, and some manufacturers offer complete systems that makes creating a new layout very easy.
