Augusta Animal Emergency is a 24 emergency and critical care hospital for small animals. We provide complex surgery including orthopedics and intra-thoracic procedures. Additionally, AAE accepts referrals for advanced dentistry and oral surgery. The Eye Care Clinic based out of Athens, GA also sees patients at our facility on a monthly basis. We have the ability to manage multiple medical and surgical cases with a personal touch that you can trust. AAE is the referral hospital for the Central Savannah River Area 24 hours a day 365 days per year.
George E. Runnels, DVM
Dr. Runnels acquired Augusta Animal Emergency on May 1, 2007, but he is not new to the area’s veterinary community. He has been a staff veterinarian at AAE since 2003 and has practiced veterinary emergency medicine since 2000.
He graduated from Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. Dr. Runnels’ career in emergency and critical care started in Savannah, GA under the mentorship of Dr. Paul Shealy, DVM, ACVS.
When the opportunity presented itself to assume ownership of AAE, he took it because of his love for the challenges associated with pet emergency and critical care.
Dr. Runnels and his family moved to Aiken in 2003 for their love of the CSRA and to bring his family closer to his wife’s parents who have lived in Aiken, SC for over 30 years.
“The loyalty and dedication of the staff was the biggest reason for me to purchase Augusta Animal Emergency. I have never worked in a hospital with such team spirit and quality of care. This staff has allowed my professional growth to flourish beyond my expectations. I approach every case as if the patient were one of my pets and attempt to treat each and every patient the way I would treat my own animals seeking emergency care.”
