Certified Cox Technique

Fifty-eight percent of Doctors of Chiropractic report that they perform the Cox Technic according to the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners but only 1% are actually certified in these procedures. Dr. Culbreth is not only certified in the Cox Technic but has been asked and participated in Federal Research utilizing the Cox Technic.

Dr. Cox received the first federally funded grant to do research in chiropractic in 1994. The first federal study conducted at the National University of Health Sciences and Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine showed that the Cox method was an effective technique for relieving back pain. The research disclosed that the Cox Technic:

3. Increased the foramina size up to 28% (more room for the nerve roots)

The Cox Technic works for back pain, is proven by federal research and gets results. Dr. Culbreth has the latest Cox tables in his clinic and has personally studied with Dr. Cox and conducted research with him. Dr. Rudy Kachman, a Neurosurgeon in Fort Wayne, Indiana who wrote the forward to Dr. Cox's textbook on back pain says that No one knows back literature and research better than Dr. Cox.

Dr. Culbreth participated in Federal Research in 2007 and 2008 with the National University of Health Science, Loyola Stritch School of Medicine and Auburn University.

Whiplash Must Be Treated Correctly
Only 12% of cervical spine whiplash (neck pain) injuries are well at 10.8 year follow-up study. Treatment must be given soon after injury, within 2 years, since symptoms are not changed after that.
Dizziness or vertigo can result from damage to the nerve receptors in the neck from whiplash injury. Chiropractic was able to alleviate 90.2 % of the symptoms after 18 treatments when the dizziness was due to neck induced dizziness.
Rear-end collisions cause chronic symptoms such as head and neck pain, stiffness, disequilibrium, emotional disturbances such as anxiety and depression, and dizziness. These patients originally were told they had minor soft tissue injury that would heal on its own.
Patients with neck pain show significantly less strength of the neck muscles than normal individuals.
Headaches and neck pain are the most common symptoms of whiplash injury-whiplash to the neck results in chronic symptoms of headache, neck pain in up to 40% of people, hearing loss, and visual changes also. Tearing of the discs at the C4-C5, C5-6, and C6-7 levels are common as well as C2-3 joint damage to cause pain and headaches.

Mayo Clinic studies have found spinal manipulation to be an effective treatment for uncomplicated low back pain, especially if the pain has been present less than four weeks. For this condition, spinal manipulation has become an accepted practice and no longer is considered alternative. Doctors of chiropractic do 94% of spinal manipulation in the US according to RAND Corporation.

Cox Decompression Adjustment and Manipulation is comprised of nearly 40 years of research, experience, and technology. Cox procedures encourage a pain free future by educating the patient about ergonomics, strengthening exercise, and lifestyle modification.

November 2006 Dr. Culbreth entered a group of only one percent of doctors of chiropractic that are certified in the Cox flexion distraction decompression adjustment and manipulation technique. We have recently purchased a seventh generation FDA approved Cox adjusting table and have been getting excellent results.

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) and the Association of Chiropractic Colleges (ACC) lobbied successfully for passage of the bill, HR 1470, which requires the VA to have a chiropractor on Staff at no fewer than 75 major VA medical centers before the end of 2009 and for all major VA medical centers to have a chiropractor on staff before the end of 2011. The HR 1470 is now headed for the Senate for consideration. Doctors of chiropractic are now in 30 VA Health Care facilities and 42 US Department of Defense facilities.

There is a chiropractor on staff at the US capitol for the Senators, Congressmen and women. Walther Reed Army Hospital and Bethesda Naval Air both have chiropractors on staff.
