National Chemistry Week at Weber
In honor of National Chemistry week, students in Ms. Brite's Chemistry class used several multi-disciplinary activities to review general chemistry concepts. The students studied mixtures and physical separation of mixtures using chromatography. During a traditional chromatography lab, they determined the dyes used in Kool-Aid and then as an extension of the lab, created tie-dye t-shirts. During an introduction to polymers, the students made slime, like in the movie Flubber.

Weber Varsity Soccer and Varsity Volleyball closed out their seasons with history-making records! The soccer team finished with a 12-2-1 overall record, and were 10-1-1 in the region. As region runner-up, the team played in its first ever state playoff match, beating First Presbyterian Christian Academy in the first round at home. Although the Rams lost 3-2 in the semi-finals against John Milledge, it was a tough match and the Rams played their hearts out! Yemin Orde Choir Visits Weber
During a very moving Hakhel this week, Weber students were treated to a visit from the Yemin Orde Youth Choir. The Yemin Orde Youth Choir is comprised of teens from Yemin Orde Youth Village, and has performed around the world. The members are from Ethiopia, the former Soviet Union, South America and Israel. They performed classic and popular Israeli songs interspersed with their own personal stories about life in the village. The Yemin Orde Village is home to 500 at-risk or disadvantaged immigrant children. It is located just south of Haifa on Mt. Carmel, and is recognized world-wide for it's ability to empower children from diverse cultures and backgrounds, cultivate self-esteem, and build leadership.

New Journeys Speaker Kenny Blank
Weber welcomed Kenny Blank, Executive Director of the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival (AJFF), as a NEW JOURNEYS speaker. This VIP speaker series brings prominent, talented and accomplished speakers to the School to address its senior students. Mr. Blank spoke earnestly about the power of film "to entertain and educate while giving moviegoers an honest examination of Jewish life." Founded in 2000, the AJFF is the largest film festival in Atlanta, and the second largest Jewish film festival in the United States, with over 20,000 moviegoers during the festival. A large percentage of the festival attendees are unaffiliated in the Jewish community, but find that the movies speak to their Jewish identity in a profound way.

After Sim highlighted recent school accomplishments and spoke about the meaning of Sukkot, Weber teachers Barbara Rosenblit and Mitch White led interactive learning sessions with the attendees. The program concluded with grandparents joining their grandchildren for lunch. The next Grandparents Day program is planned for January 2011. Many thanks to the following parents who helped make this event such a success: Sari Alifield, Marcie Koffler, Michelle Levey, Julie Paull, Amy Rein, Amy Rothenberg and Cheryl Shapiro.
